Between May 27 and 29, 2026, the SYNERGIES project held a comprehensive series of Validation Workshops in Malta. The objective was to assess the practical usability, applicability, and added value of selected SYNERGIES results in a realistic preparedness context.
The events gathered an impressive 174 diverse stakeholders, ranging from primary school educators to high-level decision-makers, first responders, and civil society representatives. Through interactive, scenario-based sessions, participants evaluated four core solutions.
Key takeaways from the field
The validation exercises provided critical strategic conclusions for the final deployment of these tools:
-
Prepare & Educate training modules & handbook: validated as highly engaging for educational settings, the training successfully demonstrated how complex Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) concepts can be translated into age-appropriate, hands-on activities for children.
-
PreCap Simulation Exercise: proven to be a great tool for multi-agency collaboration, the exercise successfully exposed institutional interdependencies, fostered inter-agency consensus, and helped break down “silo mentalities”.
-
Knowledge Base for Innovative Channels (KB4ICC): the platform was strongly endorsed as a centralised discovery tool, providing high added value for navigating fragmented preparedness resources.
-
Tool for Early Warning Messaging: the AI-driven tool demonstrated high technical maturity and cross-hazard adaptability. Crucially, the testing highlighted the absolute necessity of retaining a strict “Human-in-thelLoop” validation layer to ensure the accuracy and safety of AI-translated emergency alerts.
These workshops confirmed that the SYNERGIES tools are not only technically mature but practically invaluable for building a whole-of-society approach to disaster preparedness.
